He was an Assistant Professor at the Wisconsin Clinical Cancer Center and the University of Wisconsin School of Pharmacy in Madison.  During this period, he developed a Clinical Pharmacology resource for the wccc, and was a co-investigator for the wccc Phase I contract with the National Cancer Institute, as well as performing teaching and patient care duties in the clinics and oncology wards. He worked extensively with the New Agents and Pilot Studies subcommittee of the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group.
